Asthma, Children and Pets
Ongoing research is suggesting that pets may have been unfairly blamed in the past for contributing to asthma and allergies in children. Research published in the American Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology has found that childhood exposure to cats and dogs may actually decrease the likelihood of developing asthma and allergies in some people.

Research is presently being conducted at Cambridge University to investigate the apparent ability of dogs to detect subtle changes in the odour produced by their owners as various cancers develop.

Smoking and Cancer in Cats
A recent article in an American veterinary publication highlighted interesting findings in cats suffering from a form of cancer known as malignant lymphoma. Feline malignant lymphoma occurs commonly in domestic cats and may serve as a model for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in humans.
