Letter from your feline friend

Dear mum and dad,

Although we cats communicate perfectly well without words, I understand that you don’t have the same superior abilities. I do my best with purring, leg rubbing and head butting, and most of the time you manage quite well, but I can see that sometimes more mundane measures are called for. This time we will try the method you seem more comfortable with – human words.

I really am very fond of you and I congratulate myself on having selected you as my very own special person. I know I bring you my unique style of friendship and I think we have come to understand each other very well, considering your lack of feline sensibilities. I do want you to know that I appreciate all you do for me. Even when you think I am being less than perfect, it is just that I have some personal issues going on and I need to work through them in my own time and space.

Although I have not been completely well lately, I try to hide how I am feeling (a remnant from those "survival of the fittest" days!) You do notice, however, and you always do your best to attend to my needs. Thankyou for caring for me and insisting on the best treatment available. I still don’t really like visiting the hospital but I must admit that doctor is very gentle (and she always treats me with the respect I deserve!), I really do feel more relaxed and comfortable after my treatment. I may not always like taking my medication, but I do know that you are doing it to help me feel well again.

I know that soon I will be feeling like my fabulous self once more, and we can resume our special relationship. I look forward to spending quiet afternoons curled up on the lounge while you read your favourite book, followed by a short stroll around the garden, some therapeutic interaction with the curtains and a gourmet dinner. What a life!!

From your ever faithful friend,
