Our Practice
 |
Welcome to our Website In seeking
our services you are likely to be interested in health approaches for your animal
that are different from the current care your pet is receiving. We
are a team of dedicated veterinary professionals and para-professionals who practise
complementary and alternative medicine for animals. | Our
aim is to provide you with leading edge therapies, information, resources and
services to complement your own veterinarian's care, or alternatives to conventional
veterinary medicine. Our preference is to use natural therapies
wherever possible, but we may recommend a referral or conventional medicine if
appropriate. If you can't find what you are looking for on this site, contact
us and we will try and help you find the right solution for your pet's health. Our
Mission Our mission is to provide the highest standard
of professional veterinary care using effective complementary, alternative and
natural therapies to improve the health and wellbeing of animals and their people. If
you decide to work with us, you have our pledge that we will do our very best
to help and empower you. Our goal is to improve your animal's wellness and quality
of life by stimulating healing and restoring balance within the body. Special
Note to Referring Veterinarians: We appreciate your referral
of interesting and challenging cases. If you wish, we can provide our service
by telephone working together with your client. This works well when your client
cannot visit us for whatever reason. If possible, we prefer that you perform all
ancillary tests and remain the primary care provider. We will be happy to provide
you with all of our test results and recommendations so that you can best follow
the progress of each case you send us. How We Can Help
You We aim to keep your animal as healthy as possible
using preventative medicine and our wellness program. If your animal is unwell,
our aim is to help you in your efforts to restore your pet to healthy vitality.
As much as possible the course of treatment will be flexible enough to fit in
with your preferences and lifestyle. Although we prefer
to see you and your pet, we understand that this is sometimes not possible, in
which case we can provide in depth telephone consultations. With
your permission we like to work with your veterinarian to provide the best of
both worlds, and are happy to take referrals. We find that most veterinarians
are keen to support your search for other options. If this isnt suitable,
we will do our best to work with you under a different arrangement. Please
be aware that we do not offer an emergency service, so we encourage you to have
access to an emergency veterinarian in your area.

What Do We Treat? We
treat the same conditions that your veterinarian treats. However most of the animals
we treat come to us because the animal has a number of complaints, has had the
complaint for a long time or it keeps recurring, or the problem is one that is
not alleviated with conventional medicine and surgery. Typically we treat chronic
skin disease, cancer, allergies, arthritis, behavioural problems, obesity, bladder
problems, incontinence, epilepsy, kidney problems, heart disease, hormone conditions,
back pain and lameness problems, the strange and weird, and conditions where a
conventional diagnosis cannot be made. How Do We Treat? We
approach health problems in a holistic fashion that takes into account the whole
animal and its environment, rather than simply the disease process obvious to
the eye. Our goal is to assist your pet's own capacity
to return to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness. The treatment
approach and plan that is recommended for your animal may include lifestyle and
nutrition changes, behavioural changes, the use of herbal medicines, Traditional
Chinese Medicine, homoeopathy, acupuncture, supplements, and flower essences.
Chiropractic care, craniosacral work, manipulation, physiotherapy and Reiki are
also available. We do not usually provide conventional
treatments. We will also offer you the option of referral to veterinary specialists
when we believe this is in the best interest of your pet. Services

Khristine Edwards Physiotherapist
Khristine is a physiotherapist and
acupuncturist. She has worked with people for 20 years and animals for the last
seven years. She is currently completing a Masters Degree in Animal Physiotherapy.
Khristines approach to treatment is holistic, encompassing a wide variety
of both conventional and alternative treatment methods Animals
and people suffer from many of the same problems: arthritis, old age, sports injuries,
old injuries, trauma, back and neck pain. Physiotherapy can be of great benefit
in alleviating these problems, in particular working on:
- Soft tissue injuries involving muscles, ligaments and tendons
- Chronic
or acute spinal problems
- Rehabilitation following surgery
- Chronic
lameness
A consultation usually involves assessment
of movement problems, gentle joint mobilisation, stretches, massage, corrective
exercises and other techniques such as Reiki, the TTEAMS method, Trigger point
massage and myofascial release. Physiotherapy and acupuncture are often used very
effectively together to enhance treatment. Khristine is
also a qualified yoga and pilates teacher. She is passionate about exercise and
fitness and is very interested in getting all her clients, both human and animal,
moving as well as possible. Your animal companion may
see Khristine alone or in conjunction with one of the veterinarians at the clinic.
Practitioners at the clinic work as a team and frequently consult with each other
in order to offer you and your pet the most appropriate treatment program. |

| Useful Contacts
| | |
The internet provides incredible resources for those seeking
more information. But beware, the best information comes from official organisations
rather than just any old website. Don't believe everything you read, and check
with your veterinarian before using any treatment or product with your pet. Internet
information cannot take the place of a hands on approach by your vet.
